The rate of your heartbeat is controlled by a natural pacemaker called the sinoatrial node located in the top right atrium or chamber of the heart. The sinoatrial node produces the electrical impulses that cause your heart to beat. These electrical impulses pass through the muscles of both atria causing them to contract.
